Anyway, getting back to what I started this story about, the 23rd Annual Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show at Half Moon Bay Airport. Matter of fact, it’s so special that the airport is closed for this event. A quick email to the promoter, Tim Beeman, got the required credentials as Tim was more than pleased with Barnett’s Magazine Online’s coverage last year. Personally, I think it’s the most amazing collection of diverse transportation memorabilia including planes, bikes, cars, and trucks. There was steam, human, electric, petroleum, and propane-powered vehicles.
It was cool with a cold wind on Friday during setup. I don’t remember it being this overcast last year, but we could only hope for the best. We wandered around Jimmy Buffett-style looking at a restored 1929 Caterpillar bull dozer, a pair of Harley FXR tourers, a big and small pair of ’40s-era Grumman seaplanes. There were also hundreds of cars from a knock-off (kit car) 550RS Porsche Spyder in pre-crash James Dean livery to some real American super cars. And if that wasn’t enough eye candy, between the cops and the military, there were some scary looking urban warfare vehicles.
There was a lot more available to do besides just walking around and enjoying the old vehicles. If you wanted to go for an airplane ride, you had a choice of a modern helicopter or a ’40s vintage Beechcraft or a ’30s-era bi-plane. And if all that walking around made you hungry, you had delectable food available from chowders to crab-stuffed artichokes to whatever. Yes sir, it was just another unbelievable event in the San Francisco suburb of Half Moon Bay. See you there next year.
