70th Annual Sturgis Rally Part 1 – The Scene
Story and photos by Jack Cofano
It’s that time of year again to share with all of our dedicated readers the 70th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally scene. We will be posting a number of different days of coverage and hundreds of photos for your enjoyment. As always, I try to give you a variety of motorcycles, scenery, events, and of course pretty ladies.
This years rally was HUGE, as in humongous. The attendance seemed to be right up there with Sturgis in its heyday. Looking around at all the bikes and events you would never know there was a recession going on in the good old U.S of A. It boggles the mind.
Along with the usual events and rides there were so many top name music concerts that included a who’s who in the music industry. With such top names as Bob Dylan, OZZY, Kid Rock, Guns N’ Roses, Disturbed, and so many more I could write a page online listing them all. Needless to say, if you couldn’t find something to boogie to you just don’t know how to boogie.
As usual the rides around the Sturgis area are a must-do on two wheels. Trips to Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Spearfish, etc. can fill up a week with some of the greatest scenery and twisties found anywhere in the country. With the weather hot and sunny this year once you got away from hustle and bustle in Sturgis it was absolutely perfect. The main thing you always have to remember is that there a lot of inexperienced riders on the road as well as wildlife just waiting to challenge the most experienced rider. Be prepared.
As usual the bike shows around the area produced some of the most beautiful and innovative bikes on the planet. The AMD show again was chock full of two- wheel art from all over the world that never ceases to amaze me. That’s not to mention the great rides you see everywhere you look on the streets. I am in my glory getting to photograph what is my bread-and-butter, motorcycles.
Be prepared to see much more coverage of the Sturgis rally in the coming days. You won’t find anywhere on the web the kind of photo coverage that Barnett’s offers you. Don’t be afraid to comment on the days posting as we would love to hear what you think or what suggestions you might have.
