While mentioning the antique rides in the shop, it might be the time to talk about the 75th Daytona Bike Week coming up in March 2016 and Billy’s plans to introduce speedway racing the way it was done a century ago under the name Sons of Speed. They’ll be using bikes that are around the century mark in age to race around New Smyrna Speedway and will be a major feature of the 75th celebration.
It seems like Billy, along with me and many others, is fed up with the crap that makes up the modern bike events. The typical ambulance-chasing lawyers, T-shirt peddlers, and the rest of the camp followers are just a boring distraction from the celebration of the motorcycle. So Billy is using his notoriety to give Daytona Bike Week a much needed kick in the ass.
During Biketoberfest, he put a small exhibit in Arlin Fatland’s 2 Wheeler M/C Shop on Main Street as Arlin was busy in Denver and passed on the fall event. Pushing the 75th Spring Race deal, Bill showed off a few bikes and sold Sons of Speed apparel for the event. Also, he met and posed for photos with his many fans. It’s a bitch being a rock star, but he is. Billy’s the only one we’ve got, and extremely talented.
