This year’s first place went to Rick Bray of Rkb Kustom Speed with a stunning buffed bobber that for me was one of the most impressive creations I have seen in twelve years of photographing bikes. I usually don’t try to pick a winner myself because there are always so many great builds at these shows. I usually can’t make up my mind, but not so in this case. I told Rick the first day of the show that it would be a crime if he didn’t win. I should also mention this the second year that he has won this event and, believe me, it’s well deserved.
The Artistry in Iron event is my favorite event to photograph because the bikes are spread out and viewable from all angles. I also like the idea that the judging is done by the other contestants, so you don’t hear complaints about the judging that you hear at other shows.
Kudos to Cycle Source magazine for sponsoring a first class show and to Mindi Cherry, Penny Osiecki, and the rest of the Las Vegas Bikefest crew for putting on a flawless event.
