Women Riders: Gothgirl
Story and photos by Rodent
Gothgirl has been riding motorcycles since she was a little kid. She told me her first bike was a little Honda. Goth has never owned a car though she is capable and licensed to drive one. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, she is a practicing concert pianist, plus operating a high end shoe shine parlor, and volunteers her musical skills regularly at a home for the aged and plays a 120-minute stint in the lobby of One Market five days a week. She has played piano at Corbin’s party at 777 Main Street in Daytona Beach a few years ago. She also played on the bally at the Wall of Death Motor Drome in Hollister, back when the Hollister Rally was a viable venue. Before and after her daily concerts she shines shoes at her shop.
The infamous Goth was among the founders of the Devil Dolls Motorcycle Club in 1999. After seeing it flourish to fruition, she left to pursue other interests. Goth rides a mean Sporty on the streets of San Francisco. She also rides Big Twins when necessary. One year she rode a borrowed Big Twin from San Francisco to Sturgis and back. Another time she picked up a friend’s Big Twin in Denver, rode it to the Smoke Out in Cottonwood, Arizona, hung out for the weekend, then rode the bike onward to San Francisco by herself, alone on the highways of America.
She was the star of the one of the first motorcycle reality shows in 2001 as she was filmed as the ringleader of a gang of girls including author and “Chrome Cowgirl” Sasha Mullins, Michelle Dell, bar owner and inventor of bar dancing barmaids, Betsy who hoped to climb Mt. Everest, riding from Durango, Colorado, to San Francisco on the Discovery Chanel. I have ridden with Goth and she is masterful.
A few years ago, Mike Corbin and I were at the Haight Street Fair up in the Haight-Ashbury district and Goth came riding up and parked her Sporty on the sidewalk on Ashbury near the corner of Haight to meet with us. A cop came over to run her off the sidewalk and he recognized her and said “Didn’t I just see you on TV?” Goth answered in the affirmative and the cop said, “Don’t park there too long!” We went into the music store around the corner and Goth gave Corbin a sample of her ability on the keyboard, which led her to being hired for the afore mentioned gig in Daytona.
