You can’t describe it, can you. I couldn’t either, so I looked it up. Paisley is a twisted teardrop, kind of kidney shape design originating in India and Persia. American quilters, those sticklers for Puritan words you can’t understand (like square dancers) call paisley “Persian pickles.” I’m so glad Jared didn’t call his bike that or he’d be going around saying, “How do you like my badass bobber? I call her Persian Pickle.”

It sounds kind of dirty, actually: “My Persian Pickle took first place over the weekend.”

That’s what she said.

Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. You try doing this every day and let’s see what you come up with. This brings me to the Del Prado brothers themselves, because they do what they do every day. I can tell you first-hand they’re bikes aren’t just beautiful and made for riding, the brothers are also easy to work with, super professional, and never leave you waiting. This bobber, for instance, was built in just three weeks time.

Justin built the Paisley Bobber in his home garage before he went into business with his brother, Jarrod, and opened DP Custom Cycles. “I really like the clean, sanitary lines and the fact that this bike gets ridden all the time,” Justin said. “I did everything on the bike myself, including the paint and graphics. The idea of the paisley design came from Jared, the owner. This was a great project to work on because Jared gave me all the flexibility I needed. The only requirements were to include a seat that would take a passenger, work in a paisley design somewhere and stay within the budget. I drew up the paisley pattern and applied the graphics over bands of raw machined steel on the tank. Then I painted the black base and clear coat. The exhaust turned out pretty cool; sounds mean and clears the passenger foot peg.”

Justin was surprised at how much he liked the seat. “The Le Pera seat is made well, it’s comfortable and didn’t look too bulky,” he said. “I’m used to using solo seats, so this was a first for me.

The build ran into few snags, which is typical of a DP Custom Cycles bike. “The only issue we had with this bike was the license plate bracket, and that was after the build,” Justin said. “It got torn off at some point during one of Jared’s rides, maybe from some aggressive cornering? Who knows. I made him a new one which ended up developing a crack at the mounting point, so I had to work on it again. I mounted it a little higher, reinforced the hell out of it and welded the letters F.U. on the back. No problems since.”

Excellent. But how does it handle? “Jared let me ride this after I finished it and it’s awesome,” Justin said. “It pulls hard and handles tight. It’s also really comfortable. I’m so used to old Ironheads, this thing felt like a Cadillac to me.” Owner Jared rides this bike a lot, which is exactly the goal of every DP Custom Cycles build. “I’m happy to hear how much this bike gets ridden,” Justin said. “Jared rides this thing everywhere. In fact, I don’t know anyone who rides as often as he does. I’ve had friends tell me they’ve spotted this bike all over the state.”

Justin and Jarrod Del Prado have an exciting year ahead with some great builds planned. “We’re talking to people at the Pabst Brewing Company about building them a bike, which should be cool,” Justin said. Currently, the Del Prado brothers are working on an ’85 Ironhead café racer with a hot rod influence.
