70th Annual Sturgis Rally Part 6 – Art Walk, People, and T-Shirts
Story and Photos by Rodent
There is a new attraction on Main Street in the form of pedestals with sculptures mounted on them. Nice work, but way out of place in this type of town. They are more suitable for Woodstock, NY, Coconut Grove, FL, Sausalito, CA, or a similar artsy towns – not a farm town! Beer and liquor company signs lining the streets greet the enthusiast as he arrives in Sturgis. Large, bright lettering telling us to drink their product in order to have fun. In small print, we are warned not to abuse their dangerous products.
Sturgis is the T-shirt capital of the biker world. T-shirts telling you this is Sturgis! Every vacant lot, and there are many, is filled with tent after tent with with T’s and other apparel. All the surrounding towns, Deadwood, Spearfish, Lead, Keystone, Hill City, and Nemo are loaded with, yeah, you guessed it, T-shirt tents. Even the Super Wall Mart in Spearfish and Rapid City has Sturgis T-shirts!
One T-shirt vendor tried to distinguish himself by having Russian dancing girls perform on a platform outside his tent. Girls, girls, girls. The bars and venues jostle for girls along with the vendors. Young foxes merchandising everything from booze to t-shirts. Girls and motorcycles, just like the old days.
