Having grown tired of people commenting that “Sportsters are for girls,” Peter said, “I’ve come across this ignorance when I was building my Sportster Chopper. I wanted to show that I could build a good looking bike from a Sportster. Often I was asked why I didn’t build a real bike! But I think my bike is more real and handles better than many big twins. The bike is great, smooth to ride, easy to handle, fast, and very reliable.”
Peter was inspired by bike builders “Tom Foster and his Captain Insane, and Jesse James and his El Diablo. And the Hot Rod Culture is a big inspiration,” he said. This bike is Peter’s main ride and he’s put about 3,100 miles on it so far. “This summer we started our vacation on a lovely island in Sweden called Gotland which has long, white beaches and beautiful roads around the island,” he said. “After a great week in Gotland, we took the boat to the mainland and to the south of Sweden to meet some good friends on the west coast, in Borås. We went along the west coast to Halmstad, Varberg and to Båstad. During the ride across the country, we realized that Sweden is a very beautiful place to ride. We crossed the country once again to visit Kalmar and Öland on the east coast and the beautiful castle of Borgholm. It was a very nice trip on very nice roads. We have been visiting several exhibitions such as MC-Dagarna in Västervik and the Wheels Nationals in Barkarby and we won some prizes for ‘the most outstanding bike’ with my wife’s trike. On our vacation we drove approximately 2,200 miles around our country. As soon as we can, we’ll take short rides to and around our capital of Stockholm.”
The only trouble Peter has run into with his bike is some occasional “misfire in very heavy rain.” His favorite parts of the bike? “I love the MOON derby/point covers and the shift knob from Death Machine. And the Hard Ass seat was much more comfortable than I thought it would be,” he said.
Peter already has another build on his mind. “I have thousands ideas for a new bike but I’ll have to wait some time for financing it,” he said. “It’s probably going to be the same style as this bike, or a ‘Swedish-style chopper.’” Be sure and check back for a feature on Peter’s wife’s award-winning trike.
