In October of last year, Dave Nichols approached Kim and invited him to be part of a new program called “The Centerfold Tour.” This “tour” follows the Easyriders 2004 Show Circuit, and major national events to spotlight one bike from each of a group of builders. The 2004 line up included Paul Yaffe, Billy Lane, Kendall Johnson, Eddie Trotta, Tom Langton, and Kim.
“The opportunity to be showcased with some of the top guys in the industry really pushed me to the next level creatively,” comments Kim. “I kept thinking that we would need to build something really over-the-top, and very smooth and finished.” It just so happened that Kim and the “Big Inch Boys” had been working on several new chassis ideas, part of their R&D plan for the 2004 Big Inch Bikes line. Everyone agreed that the new Enforcer 280 chassis was the perfect platform for the Centerfold Bike.
The Enforcer is a fat 280, drop seat, right side drive, long and low profile, monster of a machine. The Centerfold Bike was built with a 124” TP show polished, diamond cut engine and Baker 6-Speed transmission. The guys at KC Creations hand-crafted the fuel tank and fenders and gave it a really smooth look with extensive body fabrication.
Meanstreet provided the front end and adjustable chrome softail shocks smooth out the back. The Centerfold bike is equipped with Climax Cycle Controls and Weld Charger 3 wheels. This bike is loaded with KC Creations custom parts and accessories including grips, pegs, forward controls, gauge mounts and cup, and a custom exhaust system.
Once the bike was complete, it was time for the paint. For this project, nothing short of spectacular would be appropriate, so the sheet metal was handed off to Kim’s in-house guru of paint, Scott Thomas. Scott went all out on the paint job using lots of color and flowing graphics to achieve eye-popping beauty. Countless fades and overlapping graphics ensured Scott would have hours of repair time for even the smallest scratch, but the end result was exactly what Kim was looking for, extraordinary.
Freshly painted and assembled, the bike was ready just in time to be picked up by the Centerfold Tour bus and hauled off to the first show of the season in Pamona, CA. The tour has been such a great success that shows were added to the 2004 season and the tour has been extended into 2005. Throughout the year, several more builders were asked to participate and the stage now contains showpieces from Chica, Dave Perewtiz, Rick Fairless, and the late Indian Larry.
The 280 Enforcer is now a standard model in the Big Inch Bikes line up. In addition, Kim has added a street bike model, the VRK (V-Rod Killer) and a retro style 300 springer (the Alley Sweeper) to round out the line with 6 models. Kim and his award winning crew also build full customs based on any of their chassis. For more information about Kim and Big Inch Bikes, visit www.kc-creations.com or www.biginchbikes.com.
