This rigid started out as a 1984 shovelhead with over 100K miles on it. They were hard miles, many with a trailer according to Brent. His friend, Chris Pearson, was the owner and Chris wanted to bring his old bike back to life rather than build up a new custom. Chris and Brent both favored the old school bikes.  The stock H-D frame got the boot and a 2004 Santee Rigid was ordered. The motor was thoroughly gone through, with almost $5K spent replacing the worn parts with new items from S&S. Displacement was upped to 88 inches and then the stock transmission was re-done as well. After the mechanical items were straightened out, the customizing began.

A fuel gauge was frenched into the left side of the King Sporty gas tank and the rear suspension, so quickly dropped, was substituted with a Cycle Boyz designed air suspension system for the seat. Seems Chris was considering putting a trailer hitch on the new bike as well and needed some comfort from his rigid custom. Apes, Cycle Boyz pipes, and a host of other items completed the build, along with the second concession to touring, the super slick, left side only, brown leather saddlebag embossed with the company logo.

Chris is more than happy with his “new” ride and Brent plans to start one up for himself soon. Brent thinks he can do a very good job with a customer’s old shovel and about $15K in customizing funds. This is, of course, quite a bit below the $50K to $75K range of Brent’s normal high-end winter projects, but the end result is a good looking bike that can be ridden hard and enjoyed.
