There was just something about the guy that transcended just being a great motorcycle builder. I still have my tapes of an interview I did with him for an article in the print edition of Barnett’s Magazine and they’re a cherished bit of memorabilia for me. I was so nervous to speak with such a legend that I had to dial him up more than once because I knew I would come across as a mindless jerk. Once I got him on the phone, he made me feel like we’d known each other for years and a quick interview turned into an hour-and-a-half conversation about anything and everything in life. He was simply a wonderful person that I wish I got to hang around with but never did and he made the interview a high point in my life.
Larry’s Chain of Mystery bike was his last build and ten years later it’s still my favorite custom bike ever. That’s saying a lot as anything he built was beyond top notch. In honor of the man, take a good look at Jack Cofano’s photos and see all the detail work that made Larry and his bikes something that will stand any test of time.
Larry, you may be gone, but you’ll never ever be forgotten.
