Anyway, this Diamond Heads’ bagger showcase bike sure takes the presumptions that all Diamond Heads does is cut cylinders and heads with their famous and patented process and throws those silly presumptions in the nearest trash bin. By the looks of this video, Diamond Heads’ inventor, owner, and all-around really nice guy, Keith Brinton, will gladly Diamond Cut anything and everything on your Harley other than cables, windshields, seats, tires, and possibly a few other things I can’t think of at his Henderson, Nevada, shop. Keith’s been at it for years now and I’m sure if you’ve ever watched any chopper TV you’ve seen them if you haven’t seen them in the flesh. I should also add that if you ever happened to see or even just walked by a bike that had them, you couldn’t miss them if you tried for some unknown reason. They are that perfectly machined and jewel-like.
Perusing the Diamond Heads web site, I ran into a bit of history as to how this process all came to be and what it does besides upping your bling quotient. Here’s what Diamond Heads has to say about itself.
“Keith was doing some engine work to his 1992 FXRS Harley-Davidson. He thought while the engine is apart to do the big bore kit he should do something to dress-up the look of the engine. He thought he would polish the edges of the cooling fins. That has long been the best way to make your motor look better, but he also knew that if he polished the fins they would require a lot of up keep. Keith thought there has to be a better way. After several days of experimenting and testing he found it and Diamond Heads was discovered.
What he did was invent the only cooling system in the world that will enhance the look of your bike while helping it to run cooler. The Diamond Heads look is created by making hundreds of cuts in the outer edge of the cooling fins. These cuts do two things: One, they make the motor look fantastic because the cuts are placed at the perfect angle to reflect light. It is that reflection of light that makes them sparkle and shine. Second, they make the engine run cooler by adding more surface area to the cooling fins, but more importantly, those cuts create turbulence as you ride. That turbulence forces more air in on the cylinder walls. Diamond Heads have been tested by engineers and have been found to cool approximately 12% faster than stock. The Diamond Heads look and cooling effect will last for the life of your bike and then some.”
Keith and his crew can do a shockingly quick turnaround on parts and, frankly, they’ve got a great reputation for their work over the years.
As far as this particular custom bagger goes, it’s quite a bit more than just a company showcase bike. Unfortunately it’s a very loving tribute to Keith’s wife of 32-years, Amber, who was tragically killed while on the back of Keith’s bike by some stupid-ass SUV driver who rammed them from behind. Man, I hated to hear this as Keith and Amber were more than just a couple, but were truly partners in every aspect of life from business to pleasure. So here’s to you Amber, you’re the real Queen of Bling.
