First off, I should state that I’m still running a 16” front wheel on my Road King which is no surprise as it’s a slightly hopped-up, but almost indecently stock high-mileage old bike. I have enough trouble just keeping fresh rubber on it and new oil in it and last fret about keeping it clean not too long after the Y2K threat was declared a bust. I can’t imagine coughing up tons of dough to customize it as radically as North Wilkesboro, North Carolina’s Joe Campbell has done to his once-was-a 2005 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. Probably doesn’t hurt that Joe’s got his own successful roofing company called Joe Campbell Roofing Inc. for financing an over-the-top radical bagger build. As for me and my old bike, I find freelancing about as financially frustrating as catching money in one of those Carney-style money machines. Maybe up on the roof is the place to be.
Where Joe took his Road Glide to be cosmetically altered was to The Chopp Shop in Taylorsville, North Carolina, where TCS’ BMOC Shannon Davidson exchanged his time, talent, and imagination for bushels of Joe’s hard-earned shingle shekels. Hey, it was a fair trade all around as The Chopp Shop replaced or modified everything like proverbially shooting fish in a barrel. Nothing was able to escape untouched. Go ahead, check it out, there’s virtually not a piece left that could be taken off this bike and shipped back to the York assembly line to be fitted to a fresh FLTRI except maybe some engine internals. Just in the slightest case there was something that could be, Shannon covered everything the human eye could spend time enjoying in one of his nationally recognized award-winning paintjobs. Somehow it’s a busy design, yet it’s not at the same time and looks just fine on Joe’s bagger. Nice job as usual Shannon.
Oh, as far as that tall 26” front wheel goes, does it now seem smaller to you too or am I just crazy? Hey, I resemble that remark!
