Probably not I venture to guess when you’ve got a bagger that’s as custom as custom can be like our feature bike aptly named Snow Bunny. That’s exactly the dilemma that Garrett Onetime Lewis of Onetime Customs in China Grove, North Carolina, creates every time he does one of his fabulous bagger makeovers like his recent Barnett’s Magazine Online feature we did on his clear wheel bagger. Garrett may not be ‘throwing out the baby with the bathwater’ (did anybody actually do that?) so to speak, but he’s sure coming close with this Road Glide.
Don’t believe me? Go ahead and check out Jack Cofano’s photo gallery and please point out any FLTR DNA to me please. Maybe I’m just a little daft, but Garrett has done a wee bit more than just a custom makeover. The trademark Road Glide twin headlight fairing is sitting on a shelf replaced by a Onetime one-off fairing incorporating twin headlights, but tiny twin headlights unlike any Road Glide you’ve seen. It’s the same thing with just about any body part you see before you like the tank fenders, bags, side panels, inner fairing and well, everything else.
Same goes for the mechanical parts too. I assume he kept the stock block, but everything else from the giant front hoop and its braking system, the bars, the floorboards (quite cool really), the hand and foot controls, exhaust, air cleaner, engine covers, and who knows what else. If it’s white, the stock parts are nowhere in sight seems to be the Onetime mantra.
Speaking of that shockingly simple, yet startling white flake paint, it is a daring color choice that showcases the bike in a bath of white light especially in bright sunlight. Somehow you’d never think of white paint as pushing the boundaries, but when you totally cover a bagger in it without some kind of zippy graphics, you gotta have confidence in your design and workmanship. Obviously Garrett is not a man who is afraid to make a statement in pure white and let his custom work stand out like it’s lit from the inside out. If someone said to you, “Did you see that white bagger at the show?” you’d know exactly which one they were talking about and I guess that’s what Garrett had on his mind when he made the choice. Besides, any other color wouldn’t really have worked quite right with the Snow Bunny name.
