Yes sir, as you can clearly see there’s not a bag in sight and that’s okay by me. This absolutely lovely board track-inspired bike is as clean as a whistle and looks like a fun runner too. I just wanted to illustrate that Joey and his crew are not a one-trick pony, but a Winston-Salem, North Carolina, shop that can turn out any style of bike and make it their own. Like a vintage board tracker, there’s nothing on this bike other than an engine/tranny, two wheels, a set of bars and a minimalist frame. No clutter, no unnecessary doo-dads and a clean as can be paint job that enhances the lines and doesn’t fight for all the open space Joey created within this design.
Based around a compact unit construction Sportster engine that just sits out in the wide open spaces, I’m not even sure where it gets its oil from. The coil-over shock-suspension for the seat is cleverly hidden from immediate view and the seat covering does just that. It covers the seat pan and doesn’t try and become some sort of billboard which I think would be out of character with the stark cleanliness of the rest of the build. The springer fork and radically swept-back bars add interest without fighting for the limelight. It’s a very restrained, yet gorgeously simple bike that deserves a good looking over and that says a lot about how Joey and his crew can keep a design looking right from stem to stern.
Even the paintjob is pretty restrained with the gloss black base and green metalflake stripe accenting the design instead of fighting for attention. I wasn’t too sure about the teal anodized rims and pushrod tubes, but after a bit they grew on me. I do love the green grips as they just add a touch of silly-fun to an otherwise pretty serious looking ride.
All in all, Joey’s produced an extremely well designed and well built that shows his taste can be as restrained and delicate as it can be over the top. Like I said, Back Yard Baggers is no one-trick pony and this beautiful little board tracker shows the range of their talent.
