2013 Rallies & Events
To kill a day, I tripped up to the revived ghost town of Jerome, Arizona, over the 158 curves in 12 miles on the Mingus Mountain Drive just down the road from the Red Rock Country of Sedona, Arizona. Jerome is a popular biker escape from the terrible Phoenix heat with Spirit Room, a biker friendly bar to hang out in. One little note here, don’t try to ride back down the mountain drunk as you’ll probably die. Otherwise it’s a neat old mining town that in its heyday had more bordellos than schools and churches put together.
But enough of this mindless rambling and let’s get down to Cave Creek’s Biketoberfest with The Hideaway Grill and the Cave Creek Tap Haus Grill separated by an inconvenience store. It seems like every custom builder in the greater Phoenix area showed up to show off their 30″ front wheels and other marvels of the intricacies of an inventive mind and nimble fingers.
To me it was a great bike show at a great venue and the picture taking was amazing. Even world-renowned artist, Eric Herrmann, set up a tent exhibiting his work and doing a little painting. He didn’t have to travel far for once as he Iives just up the road. And, Cave Creek’s Biketoberfest didn’t just save Eric a bit of travel time, it saved me a trip to Daytona Beach.
