That “strong frame” is one of Bill’s rigid frames with 35 degrees of rake and holds a pair of Blings’ Smooth Narrow Glide forks. Stuffed between those legs is one of the biggest hoops you’ll find on a custom. Here’s where the “dirt” part of Asbury Dirt comes in with a 23” stainless rim laced wheel sporting a Bridgestone knobby tire, while the rear wheel is a chrome 18” rim also covered in rubber knobs. On the choice of a 23” front wheel, Bill says, “I like the way they make the front end seem squatty and they do handle well. They just tighten up the front end of the bike.” Powering all this zaniness is a 103” S&S Shovelhead with a shorty Super G topped by a Goodson velocity stack, probably not the best choice to keep all that off-road dirt out, but it looks cool. There’s probably no off-road spark arrestor on the industrial Blings’ Glass Paxx 2 into 1 wrapped exhaust, probably no fiberglass packing either, after burning around John’s flat track. In a nod to high tech and practicality, there’s a Baker 6-speed which comes in handy on John’s frequent road trips. “John rides it all the time, right now he’s riding from Florida to Tennessee,” said Bill. The forward mount spin-on filter is a personal nod to Bill’s close friend Larry Desmedt In the looks over practicality category, there’s only a rear brake, but it is a four-piston caliper controlled by a powerful Brembo radial master cylinder mounted on a set of dirt bike Pro Taper bars with a set of Rooke risers being a neat piece of extravagance. Check out Bill’s foot controls – that’s as simple as it gets, ‘nuff said.
The tank is from an English Wassel dirt bike while Bling’s Concavo oil bag stores the engine lube. Bill’s particularly proud of his bobbed rear fender and his strut/sissy bar combo that holds it nicely. Finishing it off is a simple paintjob by Lambspeed Jersey and graphics by Hannah Connors, with a Paul Cox seat featuring the Bultaco “thumbs up” logo.
Asbury Dirt fits the definition of motorcycle to the letter.

Blings’ Cycles
Blings’ Cycles in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is the love child of a cool guy named Bill Dodge. He was formerly the shop foreman at a little place called West Coast Choppers for over seven years before packing it up and heading east to find a new way of life. Unusual as it’s usually the other way around. “I went to a party last year for the memory of the death of my friend Indian Larry. After, I had a show in Maryland and I drove through Asbury Park and said, ‘This is the place,” said Bill. “I like it here because people on the East Coast seem to be more into actually riding a bike than just showing it off.” Bill and his main squeeze, Hannah Connors, are the principals behind Blings’ where Bill spends most every waking minute having a blast doing what he’s doing. “I like the feel of everything here, people have something to say, they tell ya,” said Bill. Blings’ frames and parts are doing well with more to come. His new East Coast life suits him well as Bill says, “I like to build bikes for people who actually ride them.”
