Clint Rosine, owner of Rosine Custom Cycleworks in Mattoon, Illinois, modified his 2002 Harley-Davidson FXSTI right there in his home garage shop. Clint says the bike more than earned her name, Saving Grace. “I got a little drunk after I got her, tapped her on the tank and said, ‘Baby get me home.’ she earned her keep.”

In the beginning, Clint had the idea to only change the rear fender. “I wanted to get rid of the bobtail fender and it just took off from there, the bike decided the direction it wanted to go in,” he said. “Lucy’s Airbrush did the paint. I just gave her the basic idea and let her run with it.” Clint’s favorite aspect of the bike is that black, orange, gray, silver, and purple tribal paintjob Lucy’s did. He’s also partial to the Arlen Ness front lowering kit which, he said, made the bike handle better than stock.

Being a “budget build,” Clint did run into some problems such as “The wiring work with the taillight. I didn’t want to slice wires,” he said. But all in all, “The build went smoothly,” Clint said. “I’d like to change a few things I didn’t get to due to my budget. People see it and can’t believe it was a Softail standard or the same bike I had just different tins and a fender.” He’s built several bikes, and although Saving Grace is his personal rider, he also owns a Sportster with 110 horsepower at the rear-wheel. In the past two years, Clint has put about 25,000 miles on Saving Grace.

Clint has plans for some upcoming bikes. “I have a few I’d like to build,” he said. “My dream bike is based on a Shovelheaded swingarm frame, a rigid custom and maybe customize a bagger.”
