My annual pilgrimage to Florida greeted me with incredible coastal blue skies and moderate temperatures. The weather all four days was perfect with cool mornings and evenings and low 80s during the day. I don’t know about you, but I could live with this kind of weather every day of the year.
This year’s crowd of revelers was about the same number as previous Biketoberfests and, although attendance is much lower than the spring rally, the traffic sure is much more bearable. The rally seems to be covering a larger area every year so getting from one venue to another in the fall is a whole lot easier and much more enjoyable.
My GPS treated me to an interesting re-route on the way into Daytona. After my seven-hour drive, I was treated to an unexpected pleasant experience. For some reason it sent me on a trip along the “Old Dixie Highway” into town. What a gorgeous, narrow two-lane road canopied by large oak trees dripping moss and hundred of various varieties of palm trees along coastal marshland. After driving hundreds of miles along Interstate 95, this route into Daytona Beach was not only a visual treat, but it also avoided all the traffic and lights going into town.
If you’re looking for the Daytona Beach rally experience without the mass of humanity that you see in the spring, Biketoberfest is the way to go.
