Lone Star Rally – Part I
Story and Photos by Rodent
The most dynamic change in the Lone Star Rally hosted in Galveston, Texas was the behind the scenes change in management. Developer and promoter Ron Limbock was diagnosed with throat cancer and sold the rally to Melissa Penland and John Green. John and Melinda are well known in the motorcycle world. John runs the Easyriders Motorcycle shows and the Easyriders Rodeos. Melissa owns a T-shirt printing company in Florida and the Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach; she and John together own the Broken Spoke Saloon in Sturgis. Fourteen months since Galveston was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Ike and in spite of massive destruction and terrible weather, the bikers showed up in force to rally like they meant it. Tuesday night and all day Wednesday are for parking the big rigs and wedging in the small vendors in a very cramped area. It always gets worked out amidst tensions and agitations. The boats and backdrops along the coast are world class, so rain and all the rally got off to a good start.
