Gathering at Quail Lodge Part 2
Story and Photos by Rodent
Saturday with the event opening at 10:30 am for the public, we arrived an early at 8:15 so I could start shooting before the crowds arrived. As we parked, Jeff Decker was unloading his Crocker from his MB van. So the day began and because we didn’t have wristbands yet, we had to watch for security guys who kept on telling us to get wristbands and the media tent wasn’t open this early. A lot of personalities were on hand. Craig & Carol Vetter, Mert Lawill, Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts, Barb McQueen, and there must of been others that I missed. And let’s not ignore the fabulous motorcycles like the Munch Mammoth, Flying Merkel, Maserati (the bike), Brough Superior (ridden from Santa Barbara to Carmel Valley), Norton, Matchless, Indian, Harley, Vincent, Ducati, MV Augusta plus plus plus. Ya get the idea. At 2:00 pm awards were made and the grounds cleared and we headed inside to the Bonham’s Auction. Prices were light with all bikes sold with no reserve and yes, Mike Corbin bought back his ’72 CORBIN electric bike. It was a perfect day at a perfect venue; a worthy successor to the Legends of the Motorcycle. Next year’s should be bigger and better if that’s possible.
