Making this possible is Jack’s convenient Kaiser, Missouri, home base that also happens to be the home of one of the country’s top hot rod and custom bike builders and a really nice guy to boot, Dave Jordan of Dave’s Rod Shop (www.davesrodshop.com). We’ve featured Dave’s work many times in print and online (see archives) and his high-quality work (including being a Ridler Award contender) once again shows in this tastefully customized Deuce.
Jack, a spring-chicken-like 73-year-old, is a retired service Chevy manager and had been working on his bike himself changing out wheels, adding a chrome swingarm, and a lot of other stuff, but when it came time to take it to the next level, he had a plan. “I don’t paint, so I decided to take it to Dave’s Rod Shop. Dave tricked out my front fender by molding in a 3D skull to tie in with my skull theme I wanted on my bike. Dave also re-worked the rear fender,” said Jack. “I also had the guys design and build a chin spoiler for the front of my bike.” Now back to the “I don’t paint” apart, Jack had Dave whip off a Super Jet Black, Cobalt Blue, and Carbon Fiber paintjob with airbrushed skull graphics worthy of a Ridler winner. Yeah, if a painter is good enough to make it into Cobo Hall, he can definitely make your bike a winner too.
There were many other changes to Jack’s Deuce besides killer bodywork and paint. Jack raked out the stock-length front end an additional 7-degrees via new triple trees to showcase his 21” RC Components’ Calypso wheel. Out back, an 18” Dominator wheel holds fort with Metzeler’s finest covering both rims. All the changes along with the reach from the custom solo-saddle to the Carlini bars is Goldilocks’ correct for Jack as he said, “It’s like a Caddy, a very smooth riding bike.” He should know what works as he added, “I’ve been riding all my life. I love to ride and I ride this bike daily.”
So at 73, is Jack ready to pack it in like a lot of riders much younger than him are beginning to do for one silly reason or another? Absolutely not! He’s not only riding daily, but he’s just picked up a 2001 Deuce that he’s just starting to customize too. Kudos to you young man.
