The gas tank is a great example of Joey’s talent with paint. He wants to specialize in exotic paintjobs and pinstriping, and carve his future in the custom motorcycle art field. Joey removed all the paint on the sheet metal, bringing it down to bare metal, and then clearing the bare metal. The tank was “brush painted” to show Joey’s artistic talent.

I asked Joey when he had the engine top end off he didn’t convert the bike to a 1200cc up from the stock 883cc, and his answer was that 883 was enough. It’s just as capable of getting a speeding ticket as well as a larger engine.

I ride a Sporty myself; in fact I’m on my third 1200cc Sportster by choice. It handles better and is more fun to ride than other Harleys in my opinion. I’ve got no complaints about riding a so-called “half a Harley” and I’ve ridden both in-town and long distance on Sportys. Twice from Daytona to Galveston and twice round trip from El Paso to Laughlin and twice from Hollister to Piercy, California. All trips were trouble free except for a warranty problem in Flagstaff which was quickly resolved by the local dealer who went the extra mile to minimize my delay. But back to Joey.
