I couldn’t begin to guess why Kat Daddy calls his bike Bad Intentions, but I’m sure he’s got a reason that probably only makes sense to him. And that’s okay, it’s his creation and he can call it whatever the hell he wants. What I see is an ultra-custom that doesn’t give a damn about what’s currently trendy or hip and it was a burning passion in his head that he wanted to bring to life. “When I start a build, I try and think outside the box as much as I can. I’m always thinking of different ways to design a bike. It’s a never ending run of doodling on scrap paper, napkins, etc. and late night runs out to the shop to see if something will look right on a bike,” said Kat Daddy. “I build my bikes the way I want, ride it a few times, and like we talked about, I get offers I can’t say no to.”
Now that doesn’t mean that Kat Daddy is uncompromising when it comes to customer bikes, he built Kat Daddy Customs’ Bad Intentions as a personal keeper so he’d not only have something to ride, but to show customers what he can do. “I have plenty of pictures of my builds, but you can’t sit on a picture and make vroom-vroom noises and besides, pictures don’t do them justice,” he said. “When I talk with customers about their builds, we usually start out with their likes and dislikes — color, design, whether they like radical points or smooth lines or whatever. When they get their finished bike, it is truly custom built for them.”
Kat Daddy explained the process behind Bad Intentions and said, “This bike is all custom fabricated, you can’t buy custom from a catalog. The frame, gas tank, fenders, handlebars, air breather, coil cover, exhaust, hand grips, hand levers, foot pegs, foot controls, and primary cover are all one-off parts. Unlike a lot of builders, I actually took the time to do the math and set the frame and front end up to have five-inches of trail which in the real world is almost perfect. You won’t get heavy handlebars with the trail being too much or high-speed wobbles with the rake being not enough. I even did the paint using House of Kolor Organic Green metallic base with variegated gold leaf and hot green pin striping.”
Maybe the Bad Intentions aspect came out of the drivetrain Kat Daddy chose consisting of a powerful 127” Ultima engine and 6-speed tranny spinning an Xtreme Machine Nemesis wheel sporting a big 300mm rear tire that pretty much fits Kat Daddy’s oversized outlook on how to live life. Much like his gas tank that holds almost seven gallons of fuel or the radical front fender that has a story of its own. “The front fender is pretty unique. I haven’t seen one like it. If you look closely, the top of the fender is open with two fangs on both sides and a point that goes through the axle and extends out past the front of the tire,” he said. “The rear fender looks like it’s all one piece, but actually the center section will lift out of the base fender when you air up the shocks to ride.”
Speaking of riding, Kat Daddy said, “It rides like a Cadillac. It’s got a very smooth ride. The turns are long like any long bike, but once you get the feel and master the bike you barely notice it. This bike has a nice balance. It’s kinda like when you were a kid and first learned how to ride a bicycle. At first you felt clumsy and unbalanced, but after a few days you were scaring your parents zipping down the road and sliding your rear tire leaving rubber marks on the sidewalk.”
Sounds to me that even though Kat Daddy’s gotten a little older over the years, there’s still quite a bit of the little kid in him who’s enjoying and living life one glorious little kid day at a time.
