The current owner of the Ignacio Rally, Johnny T. Valdez, after managing the rally for three years bought the deeply-in-debt rally from the Ignacio Chamber of Horrors and controls the events at the grounds in Ignacio, but not the events in Durango. What a mess.
The Hideaway Grill at Vallecito Lake is a branch of the one in Cave Creek, Arizona, and the Harley shop and the El Rancho bar in Durango are free admission. The Ignacio event is 25 miles from Durango event and costs $15.00 to enter with everything from family friendly events to beer and music plus the usual vendors, lawyers, etc. Surprise, surprise ─ there were even a couple of legal-for-a-change pot vendors mixed in with the lawyers and T-shirts.
It might be a good idea to move the Ignacio deal to the La Plata County Fairgrounds just off of downtown Durango for a more cohesive event. But what do I know?
Fresh roasted green chili was in very visibly in season. And, as an added bonus, if you indulge you can buy pot smokeable or eatables and in many other forms. A little hash? Legally all over Durango, the sponsoring dealer is on Main Street in Durango upstairs right next to Durango Coffee. You can buy over-the-counter pot legally if you’re over 21.
