Having the Bikefest in downtown Las Vegas makes it that much sweeter for me. The old no frills casinos, cheap prices, fried Oreo’s and fried Twinkies. I’ll betcha Elvis probably had a few of those. Let’s not forget the great light show on the ceiling of Fremont Street. Far out man!
This year Fremont Street was loaded with custom bikes throughout the weekend. Featured was the Metric Revolution with some unbelievable metric customs. Two of my favorites were both Triumphs and I mean the monster 140 cubic inch engine. These builds bore no resemblance what so ever to a stock Triumph or any other bike for that matter. There was also non stop musical entertainment not only on Fremont but also at the Cashman Center the site of the vendor village and the Artistry and Iron Bike Show. This years champion who finally beat out Roger Goldammer was Greg Westbury, of Westbury Handcrafted Motorcycles who showed a sweet tricked out custom bobber.
Free shuttle, service to and fro from Fremont Street to the Cashman Centeris provided during event hours. Not only is it free, but here’s a Vegas plus. On my way to catch one of the shuttle buses going to the vendor village I still had a full beer in my hand so I asked a local law enforcement employee if it was OK to bring said beer with me. He kind of looked at me funny and said Buddy, you can carry that beer just about anywhere in Vegas. I didn’t know what to say, so I drank that beer on the bus, the whole time doing my best to hold back the tears of joy that I felt. Bless you Sin City.
While I’m on the subject of brewski’s I noticed another interesting sight you probably will only see in Vegas. The beer stands at the vendor village not only sold your favorite brew, but also sold Jaeger shots. Well slap my butt and call me Gunther, set em up for me and my friends.
The total attendance was reported to be around 40,000 lucky bikers that got to enjoy a weekend of non stop decadence in the city that never sleeps. If you can’t enjoy your self in Vegas Bucko, you need a serious attitude adjustment.
Special that’s to Pam Schwartz and Full Throttle Events for the hospitality. Another great show.
