When the condo-Nazis tried to eliminate Myrtle Beach Bike Week back in 2008, it almost destroyed one of the oldest and most popular bike rallies in the country (By the way this is the 78th anniversary of Myrtle Beach Bike Week so it’s no Johnny-come-lately. Daytona just celebrated its 75th anniversary –ed.) . Many were angry and rightfully so. What the condo-Nazis didn’t understand was that bikers don’t give in that easily. It’s taken a few years, but Bike Week in the Myrtle Beach area has come back and is still a great place to visit in the spring.
With new venues, the return of vendors, and great weather it was only a matter of time before the rally was back and, in my opinion, better than ever. It’s much easier to get around the area and staying away from the lure of downtown makes for a much more pleasurable week.
I hope that those who have avoided the rally for the past few years realize that this is a completely new rally. You don’t have to go into the city (I don’t) and with the bypass, getting to the spread out venues is a piece of cake and a great ride. For the haters and negative Nelly’s out there, if you still refuse to move on and still refuse to attend the rally, that’s fine with me. That’s fewer people I have to deal with in traffic and makes the beer lines smaller.
Many of the old standbys are still rockin’ the area such as Suck Bang Blow, The Beaver Bar, Spokes and Bones, and Barefoot Landing hosting the Full Throttle Saloon at the House of Blues.
Party on!
