Though Frank does a lot of high-end custom and one-off work, each year he puts together a signature model and a handful of spec bikes to show off his talent and new ideas. 2005 was no exception, with the debut of the Oddi Cycles Drop ‘05 Softail.
For this bike, Frank wanted to use the R&R 147” motor, so he actually designed the bike around the engine. The R&R is a very, very powerful engine, and requires a good strong frame to house it. Frank uses ProStreet FrameWorks frames that were designed especially for him. These frames are extremely sturdy and have a radiused back bone that not only shows off a motor beautifully, but also gives the bike a unique profile. The frame was then raked and stretched “a lot” and given an American Suspension front end, Ted Tine rear suspension, and a set of PM Wrath wheels.
The beefy motor was teamed with a Baker 5-speed racing tranny, a BDL primary drive, and Oddi Cycles’ own pipes. Frank chose the 280 tire size and claims with the drive train set up and zero offset, this bike is as smooth as it is powerful.
While Frank was designing this bike, he sent one of his frames off to Don Baumunk at Fat Katz and had the talented metalworkers design a signature tank to follow and accentuate the unique backbone and flow into the seat area. The front and rear fenders and the sleek and stylish handlebars were fabricated at the shop.
When everything finally came together and the completed bike rolled out of the shop, Frank took it out for the ultimate challenge… its ridability. Oddi Cycles prides itself in creating beautiful custom bikes that are comfortable and a joy to ride. The new Drop ‘05 Softail fit the bill perfectly. According to Frank, the 280 tire handles better than 240, 250, or 300. Overall, the bike rides like a dream!
