Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – Bikes Part 1
Story and photos by Rodent
After 58 years of the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, someone had the brilliant idea to include motorcycles in this show, which has made it the best of its kind on the planet. The addition of course was a welcome improvement. So in 2009, motorcycles were added to the list of entries. Last year the marques were classic British ones: Broughs, Vincents, Triumphs, AJSs, BSAs, etc. And the winner was an AJS Porcupine from the Barber collection in Alabama. (Ck out Barnett’s archives). This year’s 60th anniversary Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance featured American made bikes prior to 1960. So the old Harleys, Indians, Thors, Excelsiors, Flying Merkels, Crockers, and the like were installed on the 18th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Course overlooking the Pacific Ocean for people like me to see.
