SBK stopped at Laguna Seca having last week raced in Portugal and next week in Spain, so it seems we in the USA were just a slight detour. EBR (Eric Buell Racing) was one of the contenders and they are American bikes made by a guy who formerly made the namesake Buell motorcycles for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Eric’s new bikes cannot carry the Buell name so they are legally called EBRs. Poor Eric lost his name in the closing of Buell motorcycles. Financial support for EBR comes from an Indian motorcycle manufacturer called Hero.
There were a couple of privateers racing EBRs, but there was also quite a large contingent of Harley Sportsters, Triumphs, Ducatis and Aprilias racing so I didn’t have to spend time shooting bikes from across the Pacific with one exception ─ a red Kawasaki Ninja 30th Anniversary model that was introduced at the event.
I must have yanked someone’s chain ‘cause the media rep for Laguna Seca said early on to me that if any official (DORMA) gives me a problem to speak to her about it and she would take care of it. There were absolutely no problems ─the golf cart transporters were always there and the weather was perfect with the fog in the early morning giving way to sunny cool days. All in all, I’d say it was a great weekend at Laguna Seca. Maybe even perfect.
