Personally I think Kurt’s a smart guy as he chose to make a rideable-appearing custom bike to showcase the H-D parts he’s now offering through his Sumo-X company. Funny how a 23” front wheel that looked so huge only a short while ago now seems a bit conservative and an everyday rider possibility. Coming from a totally dedicated (and probably antiquated) 16” dresser wheel guy like me, that’s saying something. I guess I’ve drawn my line in the sand and 23” front wheels are somehow okay with me, not that it really matters what in the hell I think anyway. What’s really nutty about the whole thing though is how the Buell perimeter rotor looks normally sized in this application.
Kurt did a lot of work to this bagger from the subtle 3-degree raked out Hawg Halters triple trees giving it a bit more forward pizzazz (or flow as most would refer to it) to the bodywork that seems to melt together as a harmonious single piece of sculpture. The Sumo-X stretched tank, frame covers, and rear fender blend nicely with the Milwaukee Bagger stretched bags that has a set of S&S pipes burrowing through them. Take a good look at the rear fender, bagger boys, as that pointed piece is something new Kurt’s debuting on this bike for production.
All of the custom paint and fabrication was done by Kurt so he’s not just a check-signer, but a hands-on builder as well as purveyor of parts. The striking white and silver paintjob even extends to the built-up 103” engine. When was the last time you saw a white engine and if you have, did it end up looking as natural as this baby does? Somehow he’s pulled this off as I’m sure there must have been another, but it surely looked out of place.
For a showcase showbike, Kurt’s done a great job of showcasing his talents and his company’s wares. As far as it still being a real motorcycle under all the show glamour, all it looks like from here is that you’d have to pump up the Arnott Air Suspension, hit the starter on the 103, load up your bags and a passenger (yes it’s still a two-upper), and head on out to wherever suits your fancy. Personally I’d just be sure the weather was perfect as any dirt is going to show when something is white and shiny.
