The weekend event was a hoot as usual with all the great garage built bikes and the adult entertainment. Let me tell you what you missed.
The Smoke Out was held June 24-25 at the Rockingham Drag way in Rockingham, North Carolina, right across the street from the Rockingham Speedway. Friday was when I get most of my work done because the crowds are sparse and I can really get to talk to a lot of bike builders and get some somewhat uncluttered shots of their bikes.
Okay so let me tell ya what you missed. First and foremost is the famous bike show where ten winners are chosen and although there are no 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, all ten bikes will be featured in The Horse Backstreet Choppers magazine. For those with the need for speed, the run what you brung race down the quarter-mile drag strip should satisfy your inner drag racing dreams.
Also on the agenda were the Roller Derby Mayhem girls, motorcycle expo, and a great motorcycle given away built by none other than Dar Holdsworth of Brass Balls Choppers, someone who we are very familiar with here at Barnett’s. For your entertainment there was the Combat Boots and Hula Hoop Girls. I don’t know what he Combat Boots thingy was all about but I can tell you about the Hula Girls. They were phenomenal, doing tricks with a Hula Hoop that defied the imagination. They had to be fantastic if I actually saw the hoops, being that the girls were gorgeous. I was mesmerized.
As usual one of my favorite events was the mini-bike races. Not only are these suped up minis a riot to see race, but it is mandatory for every rider to be in costume. These lawn mower powered rockets are faster than hell and hey, you don’t have far to fall if you crash.
For your music fix there was Jasmine Cain, one of my favorite rally bands, Kings of Hell, who I must admit I never got to hear, and last but not least Rebal Son, a XXX-rated band that got the crowd rockin’ and a hootin’.
There was also your obligatory wet t-shirt contests both nights and something new being the painted lady contest where a group of lovely ladies volunteered to be painted with liquid latex to cover there bodacious parts. This seem to be something you see at all the rally’s lately as the latex supposedly covers the legality of showing what the good lord gave ya. Are there any male volunteers? I sure hope not.
I already can’t wait for next year’s event and hopefully the rumors of this show being the last show are just that—rumors. Special thanks to The Horse Backstreet Choppers and especially to Edge for the invitation and for organizing a great event.
