Also held on a separate portion of The Quail property is the annual Bonham’s auction of exotic motor vehicles. Elvis wasn’t in attendance, but his Rolls Royce was being offered at auction. Bonham’s did peddle a ‘60s red Ferrari for 38 million greenbacks plus setting a record for an auction car. Not too shabby!
Rock ‘n’ Roller, Sammy Hagar, is now in the rum business peddling Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. Pink Floyd’s drummer, Nick Mason and Neal Schon of Journey were hanging out with three-time Formula One World Driver’s Champion, Sir Jackie Stewart. Quite a crew of personalities.
All I can say is that the weather was beautiful, the bikes were beautiful, the cars were beautiful (and very, very pricey), and the food offerings were delicious. All in all, The Quail pulled off another magnificent event on the green grass of their CarmelValley property. Im my opinion, it’s right up there with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance just down the road.
A little note on the Morgan three-wheelers in attendance ─ one had a four-cylinder engine under the hood, one had the traditional J.A.P. (J.A. Prescott)V-twin in front, and the new late model trike had an S&S V-twin powering it!
