Vince Doll and crew came up from South Carolina several days before the start of the rally and brought their fishing gear along. They took full advantage of the great outdoors of northern New York. “I’ve travelled all over America and attended all the mega motorcycle events, but the Thousand Islands River Run motorcycle rally is one of the best events I’ve ever visited. We will definitely be returning for the 2011 Thousand Islands River Run event,” said Nobody of Redneck Engineering.
Other major attractions of the event were the renowned Rob’s Dyno Service, who is well-known for his precise dyno-tuning service. If your bike ain’t running right, Rob can get it fixed. Also, the Vertical Outlaws motorcycle stunt group was simply fantastic. These guys performed amazing motorcycle stunts throughout the entire motorcycle event, even during adverse rainy weather conditions. Their motorcycle stunts were fearless and absolute awesome, and the crowd was well entertained.
The annual male and female tattoo events were also a special part of the overall event. The tattoo events are held at the Downtown Bar and at the Skiffs Bar. Each year the male and female contests flip-flops between the two bars. Both events are very popular, but the crowd appears to be a little larger at the female tattoo contest.
If you know anything about real New York, then you know that the Thousand Islands region is one of the state’s most charming and most exciting areas. Also the nearby Adirondacks offers amazing sightseeing and the overall combination of things to do are endless. It’s a place where Wall Street financial junkies go to relax and to regain their sanity, especially during these economically tough times. These are the places where many Americans and foreigners spend their summer and their winter vacations. New York’s Thousand Islands region and the Adirondacks are considered by many as one of the most beautiful areas of the northeastern part of America.
The city of Alexandria Bay, New York, has a population of approximately 1,100 with an annual growth rate of 3.2 percent. The area is situated directly on the St. Lawrence River and just south of the Canadian border. Many bikers who visited the area took full advantage of the Uncle Sam’s boat rides through the Thousand Islands and those who remembered to bring their passports rode their machines across the Thousand Islands’ bridge and visited nearby Canada. Bikers also enjoyed a host of fine restaurants and bars with live musical entertainment featuring the Double Barrel Blues band, Cousin Jake Rock and Roll band, Jambones Blues band, and the Emerald City Rock and Roll Band. Dave Wilover and Moving Chairs provided the live musical sounds at the Pavilion.
Many bikers also visited the local Thousand Islands Winery. Their passengers participated in the wine tasting and many took bottles of some of America’s best wines back to their homes to enjoy on future special occasions.
On Sunday, as the event came to a close, many bikers delayed their ride back home and took part in the Poker Run. After, they enjoyed the Downtown Block Dance to the music of Fred and the Ed’s Band. Many hated to see the event come to an end, but they know that the 2011 Thousand Islands River Run is scheduled for June 24-26, 2011 and they will return for another biker fun-filled weekend in the Bay. Mark your calendars for this great motorcycle event. For more information on Alex Bay, New York, and the 2011 Thousand Island River Run motorcycle event, visit http://tiriverrun.vpweb.com
The Alex Bay Chamber of Commerce and local HOG chapters are bidding and hoping to bring the 2012 State HOG Rally to Alexandria Bay. I’m still trying to understand why the State HOG rally isn’t held here every year. It’s the right location for the event, and many are in agreement with my assessment.
And the question of the day is, “How many islands are in the Thousand Islands Region?” We’ll see you on the road!
