Nowadays the SOHC 650cc vertical twin is becoming prime fodder for the café crowd, so I thought it would only be fair to showcase a fine chop like Wayne Cothran’s of Wicked Willy Choppers in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Wayne left no stone unturned when he built this ground-up beauty that looks like a blast to ride and could be the belle of the ball at any show.
With a surprisingly long production run from its introduction in 1968 to the final version in 1985 and a reputation for being as hard as an anvil to break, there are still tons out there waiting to be tweaked and twisted. Keep your eyes and ears open and you’re sure to find one sitting in somebody’s garage or basement just waiting for you to make something special out of. Frankly, it’s be hard to make one quite as lovely as Wayne’s, but you sure could have some fun trying.
