Garberville is about 12-miles north of the run site with the usual amenities associated with small town America. There are a couple of bars, restaurants, a grocery store and a few motels. No signs indicating the agricultural endeavors surrounding it. Thanks to Danielle and Gary, my credentials and VIP parking were taken care of and I was good to go.
The traditional “Redwood Run Side of the Road Line-up” Thursday starting at 9am outside the gate for Friday morning’s gate opening is an excuse for a pre-party before the actual party. The pre-party is almost a preview of the coming attractions, but not quite by a long shot. Between the road and fence behind it, people set up tents and party like there is a bigger party tomorrow. Certain behavior had to be constrained until the party people were past the gate signifying private property.
It was an extremely warm day and a couple of kids were running a lemonade stand to raise money for their 6th grade class to take a field trip. It added a homey touch to the deal. The kids, of course, were not allowed into the over-21, adult-only playground through the gate and down the hill.
