According to the Sonny Production LLC.’s (“Your Original Official Guide to Bike Week Activities) website (www.myrtlebeachbikeweek.com), “Bike week is NOT in the city of Myrtle Beach. There are no bike week events in the city of Myrtle Beach. Many think that the city of Myrtle Beach is the Grand Strand —it is not. The city of Myrtle Beach is roughly 14-miles of the Grand Strand, which is over 60-miles in length. You can take Hwy 31 and totally miss the city of Myrtle Beach and all the stop-and-go traffic going north or south. Events are in North Myrtle Beach, in Murrells Inlet, and in Horry County.”
That said, to me it seems like most of the festivities take place in and around Murrells Inlet area consisting of the two Suck Bang Blow areas and the Beaver Bars north to the Harley-Davidson shop with Jamin’ Leather and the Broken Spoke in-between. True there are things going on in North Myrtle Beach, mainly at Barefoot Landing, and I suppose other places in Horry County, but not to extent of past years.
All things considered, this year’s rally seemed to be a huge success. That’s not comparing it to its heyday, but the crowds have grown substantially in the past couple of years. I know that I cannot change some peoples’ minds about this event but to me it’s still Myrtle Beach Bike Week, still a ton of fun, and a great way to spend a week with our brothers and sisters of the motorcycle fraternity.
