This is another bike that we saw a few weeks ago on a Saturday in front of our shop, just about hamburger time as I recall. This bike struck me as a particularly tasteful customization, with the dark color and subtle ghost flames contrasting with the bright chrome everywhere on the bike. The flames were applied right here at Barnett Harley-Davidson by Kafka, an Arizona-based painter who stops in twice a year. He paints up a dozen or so bikes for us and makes appointments with customers as well.
After talking to the bike’s owner Richard a while, it turns out he is a die-hard biker, riding for 41 of his 50 years. The bike he owned before this one was a 1981 Sturgis shovelhead. He built it up from parts purchased on eBay and then rode it for more than ten years. Skipping several generations of Harleys, he then picked up this 2008 Street Glide in the fall of 2007. He takes his time, adding a few parts here and there until he gets it looking just like he wants. Then this retired military road rider, gets his money’s worth from the bike. He plans to ride it for many years. The only work farmed out to us was the installation of the pipes and air cleaner, otherwise, this is a garage special. One that came out particularly good looking in my opinion.
