He designed, fabbed, and built the bike in his home garage in Salisbury. The custom paintjob, by Beth Swicegood of Painted Magic in Lexington, North Carolina, is comprised of faux painting on metal areas, the tank, the seat, and ammo box. Johnny says the build gave him no trouble at all. A man of few words, Johnny simply said the pipes are his favorite aspect of the bike.
Johnny also owns a custom 650 Yamaha dirt track/ racing bike. Ridged Spice is his personal rider, and he rides every day. He said the bike handles “Great! Rough, but you can’t be cool and comfortable at the same time.”
MFChoppers has built several bikes. “I’ve enjoyed doing this throughout the years with my dad and other family members and friends,” he said. “It is a great passion and a dream.” He added, “Building this bike was a great experience… with great friends and lots of alcohol.” He hasn’t entered Ridged Spice in any shows and has no plans to. “Shows often are rigged!” he said. “True builders are as unique as are their bikes. It’s another form of art.”
All in all he’s very pleased with the bike. “It turned out exactly as I expected. It’s an accomplishment that I’m proud of. The only thing that could improve would have been the photo without the ‘b*tch’ seat!” he said, laughing. He plans to continue building bikes as MFChoppers. “Dreams are never ending and neither is the art of building,” he said. “Always have an open door to the art of bike building.”
