David Sawyer’s 2006 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
Story by Mark Barnett, Photos by Donna Coale
This bike was built by David Sawyer of Darlington, Maryland as a tribute to both his father and grandfather who both passed away recently. His father was in the Navy so David built the custom Fat Boy around the nautical theme of pirates, folks the Navy used to chase. The exotic paint job includes real diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. There over 200 hours in the paint job alone, even the grips were given incredible attention. The 88” Twin Cam Fat Boy was left relatively stock and therefore quite reliable. A few extras were added, namely a set of Xtreme Machine Twisted wheels, a flashy Vance and Hines exhaust system, braided lines, assorted chrome covers, and Wild 1 Chubby bars. Painter Mark Brown put in those 200 hours of painting, air brushing, and polishing. House of Kolor white pearl flake paint was applied as the background for the numerous “paintings” which adorn the bike. Everything was completed in a very short two month period. After carefully looking at the paint job on this bike, I think I’d recommend front and rear chrome crash bars to keep that sheet metal off the ground. Parts, give this man a call.
