Jason Neiman from Olmax Fabrications, the manufacturer of the SS Trike www.sstrikes.com, has been a client and friend of mine for the past six years. I would say for the past four years, from concept to completion, he has been confiding to me about the details of the SS Trike. I’ve been expressing my desire to ride the trike ever since. Finally, this past February Bob Kay, the owner of A Bikers Garage, had a garage party for his VIP clients and introduced the SS Trike. Customers and the media were on site to take the SS Trike for test rides.
At first glimpse, this 790-pound trike looks like it would only cater to the tall-and- long, experienced rider. This is definitely not so, Jason has made it a point to design a user friendly trike that caters to all build types. The floorboards and foot controls are adjustable and the trike comes with two seat heights. And yes, you can see very well over the big wheel-style, five gallon tank. In the video you will see enthusiasts of varying heights riding the trike with ease. At only 5 ‘4” on a good day, the trike and I felt like one after only 30 minutes into the test ride. The trike has a two-speed automatic transmission with reverse. The transition of gears was smooth and the adjustable air ride, hydraulic mono-shock made the ride comfortable. I thought I would bounce over the road imperfections but the ride remained stable and the brakes worked perfectly. This machine is not a struggle to ride in any way whatsoever.
Being the perfectionist that he is, when Jason returned home after the test rides and reviewed his notes, he decided to make some changes to the SS Trike. Jason changed the motor to the 117-inch, EPA-certified S&S X-Wedge engine with electronic fuel injection. Optional accessories include a windshield, a padded passenger backrest, an extra seat, a removable storage compartment with a third brake light, a trailer hitch (includes pin assembly and bar), and the very cool flame graphics.
I had very little experience on three wheels prior to this test ride and would encourage anyone who has a chance to test ride the SS Trike to do so. You will be very pleasantly surprised. Many thanks to Jason for allowing me to ride his trike and many thanks to Bob Kay and Jeff Najar for their hospitality while in Roanoke, Texas. If you’re ever riding through Roanoke, you must go see Bob Kay and his very cool establishment, A Bikers Garage www.abikersgarage.com. Especially if you breakdown, no matter what you ride, Bob Kay will be there for you.
