It’s only the 25th anniversary of Dream Machines if anniversaries are important in your decision whether to attend an event or not. It’s not in mine as I’m more concerned about the content, location and ambiance rather than a mythical celebratory number. Too many people go to over-hyped, over-crowded, and over-priced events based on some mythical digit or two in my opinion.
The day of the event was sort of a cool day with a breeze blowing under a brilliant sun, a very typical coastal day. Various food stands were set up in sort of a circle with a bandstand and a bunch of hay bales for seats. Static airplane displays were situated mostly in front of the airport headquarters and the fueling station with planes available to buy a ride on were nearer the usable runway.
The promoter, Tim Beeman, supplied a free shuttle to haul people around the airfield with convenient drop-off and pick-up points. Hey, this was a chance to wander aimlessly around an operating airfield without the TSA or Homeland Insecurity lurking about ready to throw you in jail as a terrorist trespasser.
Tim Beeman of Miramar Events did his usual fine job of putting the show together. Tim also runs the Half Moon Bay Halloween Pumpkin weigh-in contest where some huge pumpkins compete to be the world largest pumpkin. This was by far the best and the most attended Dream Machines Show so far. Damn it, I missed Laughlin.
