Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Cars Part 1
Story and photos by Rodent
The entire Monterey Peninsula becomes the exotic vehicle capital of the planet during the second week of August each year. Every type of vehicle from lakesters and hot rods to vintage motorcycles are displayed, bought, sold, and auctioned. Jaguar celebrated its Diamond anniversary this year, the beautiful Ferrari SWB (short wheel base) Berlinetta celebrated its Golden anniversary, and it was noted there that we have now had a century Indy 500 races. The main event, the massive car and bike show, is held on the 18th hole of the magnificent Pebble Beach Golf course overlooking Monterey Bay. Huge temporary tents of a beautiful design are erected on the lush lawns by the likes of Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, Porsche, Lexus, Infiniti, plus auction houses with cars and motorcycles tastefully laid out. Other motoring events could learn something about this classy operation. There are peripheral events associated with the Pebble Beach anchor event. Laguna Seca Raceway has vintage car races, Quail Lodge has a Bonham’s auction plus a display on the Rolex lawn.
