Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Cars Part 2
Story and photos by Rodent
The Laguna Seca Golf Club hosted the Italian Corscono featuring Alfa Romeo and Ducati this year. In downtown Monterey, hotels had exotic car auctions with displays in the California Custom House State Park and on the surrounding streets, parking structures, and hotel lobbies.
Also there was a tour of Big Sur on Hwy 1 that about 150 vintage cars participated in, lead by a 1902 Mercedes Simplex. The Concorso Itailiano was a massive show of all Italian wheels from Vespa, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romero, and more that attracted huge crowds for this 25th year. The color of these vehicles went from red, white, and blue to some that were a disgusting shade of green. 99% were in Italian Red as they should be.
I was lucky enough to sit behind the wheel of three of the world’s most exotic current automobiles. The first was a four hundred thousand dollar Maybach and the second, a brand new 2010 Mercedes Benz Gullwing coupe. Third was a 2010 Rolls Royce ragtop with suicide doors. The Maybach was nice, and a Rolls is just a Royce, but I left my heart and soul in the Gullwing which was nestled between some 1955 300 SL Gullwings which now sell at auction for around a million bucks!
