Myrtle Beach Spring Rally 2009 Part 1
Story and Photos by Jack Cofano
The Myrtle Beach Spring Rally has always been the redheaded stepchild of the three big rallies in America; always third and never trying harder. Why should it? Everyone enjoys themselves, it’s a great party and so what if the big names with all the cash didn’t pour in this year. A big part of the reason is that they would have had to deal with a city government that never supported the rally and just wants it to just go away.
Well this year the geezer condo-developer cartel dominated the city council as they have for the last four years, and they put the hammer down. Using every means at their disposal, they finally got their way — almost. True, the attendance was much lower than in the past, partially due to the various media outlets, such as newspapers and internet sites stating that the rally had been cancelled. But not everyone got sucked in by the naysayers.
The beginning of the week was very slow, but by the end of the week there were plenty of riders like me, partying like nothing had changed. I don’t know about you, but I have a major problem with the powers that be infringing on my rights for their own benefit, especially through intimidation.
